Today was a HOT one!! I don't know what the temp was but it made me sick to my stomach. When it's nice out they want you to take the babies outside for the sun and fresh air. Honestly, I don't like the time spent outside. It's nice to go for a walk but I don't feel like I can really interact with her. Serenas too young to play on the slide, swings and other things they have out there. We go for a walk and I like that but she gets bored out there. She even tried climbing out of the stroller today. She wants to walk and climb but she won't wear shoes, if she does they fall off her feet, and I can't let her just play in the dirt. I don't know what kind of a reaction I will get if I bring back a "dirty baby". She is very patient but I can tell after an hour of sitting in my lap or me carrying her around she wants to get down. I prefer to play in the playroom with her even though it is like a sauna in there. That's what everyone calls it. Today was a little slow.
I decided to post some funny face photos today. I had alot of pictures that were amusing. Some more than others.
Can you see the frustration on her face? Today was the first day she expressed some frustration and it was pretty mild. I hope she's not saving it all up for when we get home and I pray to God she sleeps on the plane!
Ok, now look at this picture and squint your eyes. This is what Serena should look like one year from now. Do you like her new doo? It kind of has a 50's look to it don't ya think? Look at all the hair she will have!
My sweet girl cryed again when I left. I decided not to say goodbye to her today and I put her down with her friends but they were not the usual babies she plays with. She just started to wimper and I walked out, then the crying. I heard the caregivers calling her name to distract her and then she stopped. I know it's good she doesn't want me to leave but I hate to upset her.
Check out the tables in the backround. They are low tables that you eat at while you sit on the floor, shoes off please before entering your table.
My three friends that are adopting (at my end of the table) know a couple that are missionaries who have lived here for the last 18 months. We all met at a middle eastern restaurant called Ali Babbas. It's an outdoor place on the river and I loved it. We ordered a bunch of different dinners and split everything. (I felt like I was having dinner with Rose Ann and Patty)
There is a sausage I have mentioned before that is very thick, maybe 3" in diameter. We tried it tonight and the Kazakh people love this meat, it's supposed to be the best kind of meat here but I wasn't crazy about it. I don't see what the excitement is all about. Everything else was good. We sat at this place for 3 hours. Emily said when you make a reservation at a restaurant in Kaz they plan on you being there for the night. They make the meal last a long time, like dinner with my sister and brother in law Maria and Tony. It's not just dinner, its an night out.
It was good to get out for dinner and it's great to meet all these new people too. It was much cooler tonight too, nice for a walk along the river. Next week we are going to meet to go to the museum again. They have not been there and I would like to go again so I am looking forward to that.
I have to say you are all right about the pipes in the road, they are pipelines (I was hoping for a more specific answer as to what they are for) and they are pipelines that carry hot water throughout the city. Jake said you can feel the heat if you put your hand on them. Since you were all right you all get a prize when I get back!
Sweet Serena, you were so patient today being outside and not being able to crawl and walk. When I see you on Monday I will make sure you get to do that fun stuff you like to do inside. I will miss you tomarrow. Love you sweets!

Hi Dana - The "Funny Faces" theme is cute. Not only can I picture her with more hair in a year, but I see her in pigtails, too. Mom would just love those bangs she has!
Seems like you are sampling quite alot of cuisine.
Dine out while you can Baby Sister. Pretty soon, I can see you making homemade meals for your little darling. Maybe some pasta fagiola, eh? Or a little pasta and meatballs for the girl with the meatball cheeks! I can't wait to give them such a pinch.
Better yet, come visit me and Tony and I'll make dinner.
Serena sweetie, your delightful personality is showing through whenever you play with mommy. You are such a peach!
Love and Hugs - Aunt Maria
These are some blurbs I thought of to go with the "funny" photos:
Photo 1 - "Nahnanana, you can't catch me."
Photo 2 - "I think, I'm constipated."
Photo 3 - "I DON'T like creamed spinach."
Photo 4 - "What do you think of my 1950's bouffant hairstyle?"
Those were some cool photos to go with all the rest. What great photo albums and memory books you will have, Serena. Mommy is doing a wonderful job of documenting the whole experience.
Stay cool,
Patty
What exactly does your comment mean??? Just kidding. I'm glad you are sharing with your friends-like a good little girl. Serena will pick up good habits from you. Your friends all look very nice. I'm glad you're having fun with them.
I thought for sure you would say- "this is sooooooooooooo good" when you ate the sausage. I really waited to see if you were going to say that, but you surprised me.
Those tables in the background look really cool. Maybe you could photograph that and submit them to a juried show and win first prize (The non-artist in me will never understand that).
Serena love,
Your funny face pictures are adorable. You really have lots of charisma, I can see that already. I can't wait to meet you.
Love to you both,
Aunt Ro-Ro
I love the funny faces. Her personality really shows through.
Ali Babbas sounds like my kind of place. Casual dining and eating all night.
I'm so happy you have made some nice friends. I know that really makes the difference being so far away from home for so long.
By the way if you check out my comment I did guess that the pipelines were for water. So I'll be waiting for my prize when you return.
Love,
Lori xo
