As soon as I saw Serena this morning I knew she was not a happy girl as she usually is. No smile just quiet and somber. She was sitting in her booster seat they feed her in and finally she put her arms out for me to pick her up but still no smile. The caregiver said she had a massage before I came and they were a little rough with her. They massaged her pretty good and her feet especially. The massage therapist said her feet were very tight and Serena was crying during the massage. Poor Sweet Girl. They wanted us outside today so I changed her and we went out. She wanted no part of the stroller for a walk so we sat in the gazebo, she didn't want that either, nor the swing. She was very fussy and just uncomfortable. It was very hot and humid today too which made it worse than previous days. Ainura put the blanket on the grass and we sat there for a while and then she got really irritable. I think the sun was too much for her. She started to cry, really cry for the first time and I was pretty close to crying too, seriously I was very close, it really hurt my heart to know she was so uncomfortable.
I undressed her except for her diaper and went for a walk. I carried her because she did not want the stroller. She started to seem like she felt better and it made me happy to see her happier. We sat in the shade at a picnic table and she started to talk and babble some. It didn't last long because we went back in the sun and she was a grumpy girl again. We decided it was time to go in although we still had 40 minutes left.
We went inside and found Sarah and Sam on a balcony playing outside but away from the sun. We joined them to play. Serena was much better here. She likes to crawl and walk and it's just difficult outside. Sarah got some good giggles from Serena while they played footsie and she just seemed more like herself. This picture is Sams and Serenas feet. Sam is so cute! So cute! I will post another picture of Sam and Serena tomarrow.
I have been wanting to take a picture of this but so far I always forget to bring my camera with me but today I had it. As hard as it was to see Serena feel so bad today she gave me the best gift so far when I laid her down in her crib. This is what I see when I put her down, she just becomes angelic, calm, serene and it is such a special moment every time. Today something different happened.
As she was looking at me and I was telling her how much I love her, she picked up her hand and her palm was facing me. I put the palm of my hand up to hers and she put her sweet little fingers between mine and closed her little hand. Do you have any idea what this did to me?? I really can't imagine anything better than this! I immediately had a rush of tears in my eyes and my heart was so full of love for this little girl. I had no idea I could feel this way. She just touches me so. It's amazing!! It brings tears to my eyes just to think of it.
If someone told me this story it would be hard to believe, this stuff only happens in movies but I was there and grateful to have had my camera in my pocket. I grabbed it and got this wonderful picture I will always treasure. It's not the best picture, my watch and ring are distracting but it's all about the moment. I can't even begin to describe the feeling this has given me.
Serena you are such a joy to me and I just can't imagine it getting any better than today. Today was just so amazing that I just can't imagine it being possible to surpass these emotions I have for you. What you do to my heart is something that can't be expressed with words. You just have to feel it to understand. Thank you Sweetness for filling my heart and teaching me what it feels like to have the best kind of love in the world. Big Big Love, Hugs, and Kisses

Hi Dana
Your story today is very touching. I know this was wonderful for you. I'm so happy!
You and Serena have a lifetime of touching moments to share. It's the little things that mean so much.
I have noticed a change in the photos. Both you and Serena have a different look in your eyes. In the beginning Serena looked distant. Now her eyes sparkle! Her face shows more expression. I think she is truly happy to see you and have you spend time with her. And you, you look peaceful, content and oh so happy! Motherhood agrees with you!!
Enjoy every moment, they grow up fast.
Love you two
Lisa
Well, I think Serena is more comfortable with you. She is beginning to share all the different sides to her personality. Her likes and dislikes: Naptime - Good; Massages and stroller - Not so good.
I am so happy you get to put her down for her nap. Even if there are other people around, it sounds like such a peaceful moment shared by just the two of you. I think Serena knew you felt bad for her today and that you were trying everything you could to make her more comfortable and happy. And before she went to sleep she reached out to thank you. A small gesture with a huge emotional impact. The photo just captures the moment forever. I wish I could have seen your face as she reeched her little hand out to you. I am sure that the emotions you are feeling will live vividly in your heart long after the photo has faded.
I am overjoyed for you. The outpouring of feelings for Serena that you have shared warms my heart and brings a tear to my eye for your happiness. I think you and Serena are going to be just fine together.
Love,
Patty
Oh Dane, it brings tears to *my* eyes just to read it! How very special is the bond that is forming between you and Ms. Serena. And you're right, it does seem like something out of a movie....your movie (btw - I would like Charlize Theron to play me in the movie - lol).
It seems like this whole experience, although not exactly how you pictured it, is *better* than you imagined. To watch a lifelong dream come true for you is the absolute best! And everyone in my house is beyond happy for you (even the grouchy one).
Love,

ps. Lisa's right, enjoy the moments. You blink, and they're big.
Hi Dana
Your entry today really touches my heart. It is so clear in the photos the bond you and Serena have is deepening. My heart is so full of joy for you. To be a part of your journey with Serena has been a wonderful gift. Somehow I feel you have only scratched the surface of the love and touching moments you will feel with Serena. I look forward to hearing about all of them.
Love,
Lori xoxo
I forgot to mention... How awesome that your baby is already getting massages. Kaz is really forward thinking using infant massage for the wellbeing of their babies. I'm very impressed. You chose a wonderful country.
Lori :)
