Meeting My Little Kaz Baby

Today is my second day in Kazakhstan. Yesterday Erken (coordinator/driver and Ainura (translator) picked me up at the airport at 8am, we went to the apartment and off to the babyhouse.

We went into the orphanage directors office and she showed me two babies. The first one had some issues and was a 14 months old. I asked if they had a younger baby and they brought in another baby who is just about 12 months, they had no younger babies. Her name is Moldir Khamzina and her nickname is Molka. We went into a play area to spend some time together and she was very happy, active, interested and I really liked her. She crawls really fast and pulls herself up on the furniture and the walls to stand. She claps her hands, waves goodbye, and says "Da, ah Da" and is just very easygoing. She loves raspberries on her feet and belly. She would crawl away from me and then look back to see if I was watching her, I would catch up to her and she would crawl away and look back to see if I was watching her, it was just so cute! I could eat her up. She seems to be very healthy and she weighs about 20 lbs. She seems like a sweet girl. We spent about an hour together before I had to leave and then we went shopping, back to my apartment, and I unpacked all my stuff.

Some notes on some other things. I have heard in Kazakhstan things here are very different than home. The beds are more like a boxspring, the temp here in June can be 100 give or take a few, there is no AC (that really worried me, still does) and there are no screens on the windows, that means lots of bugs to eat you alive in your sleep but my baby is worth it so here I came. I was soooo happy to find out my apartment has screens! It's always the littlest of things that makes me happy. The bed is not as bad as I imagined although it is pretty hard and Erken got a nice fan for me........yeeeeaaahhhh!

Now for today's visit. My visit hours are from 12-2pm. We went upstairs to the baby's playroom to pick up Moli (another nickname) and the caregivers thought it would be good if I took her outside. I put her in a shirt I brought and they gave me their pants, they didn't like mine. She was very happy like yesterday and we went for a walk around the babyhouse in a stroller, it was very hot so we sat under a gazebo and played with Moli. She loves to be tossed into the air and we took lots of pictures. After about an hour we went inside to talk to the doctor. She said she is very healthy, all bloodwork has always been good, she is the first one to crawl in her group. She is a very good baby, is never moody and is very sociable. I asked what makes her angry or cry and she said only when she is sick. She is very healthy. She does seem very happy. We went back to her play room and said goodbye but it was very hard to leave her. I put her back in her area and she looked confused. We left and then she started to cry. Do you know what that did to my heart? We went back and she was just standing there looking at me. She sat herself down on the ground and then just layed back on the floor and cryed, not loud or anything, she was just unhappy. I picked her up and told her I would be back tomarrow and I kissed her little hands. I put her down and she seemed ok after that. I guess she enjoyed the visit just as much as I did. It's amazing how you can fall for a baby. I can't wait to see her tomarrow!

Moldir you have won my heart. You are my little kaz baby.

Dana - She is adorable! I'm thrilled about the whole thing and now have pictures to bring in to work and show my friends of the baby my sister went to Kazistan to adopt. Everyone has had an adoption story to tell. All good. The first thing I do when I get home is check your blog. This is great!!! She seems bright, aware and playful. I hope all continues to go well. I'll check in tomorrow. Love - Maria

She is very cute. I can't wait to meet her. I'm glad she is already keeping you on your toes. She looks healthy and happy. And it sounds like she is well advanced. I can't wait to hear more about your adventure (the pipe bursting -this could only happen to you) and more importantly getting to know Moli better through your blog.Take care. Love ya both (already) - Patty
